About Us
Flame FM in Swindon began in 2000 when Premier Christian Radio issued a challenge to the nation to encourage more Christian radio. Swindon Churches Together decided this seemed like a good thing to do and we were one of the very few stations who actually took up the challenge.
It was pretty amazing that we actually did it that first year - we had to raise £12,000 and learn all about radio in the space of about 3 months. The only thing I knew about radio was how to turn one on in my home or car and tune it in! Needless to say the learning curve was steep! Helped massively by John Marshall and Ian Dyer - it is fair to say without these 2 it would not have happened - we did it. Mind you, we were still filling in the schedules as we progressed through the broadcast time.
We are proud to say we won an award during that first broadcast for our coverage of the huge Pentecost gathering at the County Ground.
We have moved around a little! The first time we ran from St Mary's Church in Commonweal Road, Flames 2, 3 and 4 were all from Bath Road Methodist Church and this year we are at The Willow Centre. Still in Old Town as we need the height advantage! We are only allowed 15 watts of power and our aerial installation has a height limit restriction placed on it so we have to make sure we're as high as we can get to start with!
We hope you enjoyed listening to our broadcast as much as we enjoyed preparing it and putting it on. Do email us with any comments you have (good or bad!). It is always good to get feedback from folk.
